While my brother was deployed, I sent dozens and dozens of care packages, letters and cards. It was one way I could reach out to James while he was deployed, and sending correspondence was a great way to fill my time and ease worries.
Last year I adopted a soldier through Soldiers' Angels. My mission: send one letter or card per week and at least one care package a month. It was hard at first to get into the habit of sending packages again, but after a month or two I really started to enjoy my 'mission'.
Yesterday I received an email. My adopted soldier has returned home and is very appreciative of my support during his deployment to Iraq. Without revealing any confidential information, I can tell you that he worked with a finance company in a relatively stable and safe part of Iraq. Thank God.
After receiving the email, I immediately logged on to http://soldiersangels.org to adopt another soldier. I will continue to support our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan until they all come home. I will support them with letters and care packages, but more importantly I will support them with prayers, and when I see a service member in uniform I will walk up to them, smile and thank them.
My new adopted soldier is a Marine Corporal serving with ground combat forces in Helmand Province. Please join me in praying for him and the thousands of other boots on the ground in harmsway.
Won't you consider becoming a Soldier's Angel, too?
